Life Events Tab

The Life Events tab allows you to update enrollment information and enable enrollment for an employee. This is useful if an employee has made a mistake on the enrollment application, and needs to make a change. It is also useful if an employee’s life status changes, such as marriage, divorce, new dependent, etc.

Updating an Employee’s Enrollment Information

To update an employee’s enrollment information, select the choice that applies (e.g., I wish to change the beneficiary of one or more of my benefits), and then press Next.

Benefits-Selection automatically opens the Enrollment Site, with the appropriate selection screen displayed.

Updating Coverage for a Life Event: Changing Beneficiary Example

In this example, we are updating the life insurance beneficiary. Select the plan in which we want to change the beneficiary (Optional Life Dependents for example), and then press Next.

Let's say the Contingent Beneficiary was accidentally selected, so we are going to delete this beneficiary.

Deselect the Contingent Beneficiary option. The Contingent Beneficiary information is automatically deleted. Press Next to finalize the change.

Enter your administrative password or PIN number, and press Confirm. Because a change had been made, the Benefit Confirmation form must be reviewed and signed again.

Press Next to continue with the verification process.

Before signing this final form, ensure that all information is correct. Enter the appropriate PIN number in the text box, and click Sign Form.

A recap of the employee’s benefit selections displays. Press Logout to exit the session.

Updating Coverage for a Life Event: Adoption Example

While deleting coverage or updating a beneficiary is fairly simple, other life events require more work. For example, when updating an employee’s selections to accommodate a new family member, due to birth, adoption, or regaining of custody, selections for benefits for the added dependent must be made.

  1. First, open the employee record.
  2. Next, select the Life Events tab.
  3. Select the “I have a new child (birth, adoption, or regained custody)” option, and press Next. The Life Event: Birth/Adoption screen displays from the Enrollment Site.
  4. Press Next to continue.
  5. Select the appropriate event for the addition of the dependent: Birth, Adoption, Marriage, Divorce, or Regain Custody.
  6. Enter the date that the event occurred.
  7. Enter a First Name, Middle Initial, and Last Name for the child.
  8. Enter a Date of Birth.
  9. Enter the Social Security Number of the child, if available.
  10. Select the gender of the child.
  11. Press Save to keep your selections. The dependent’s information is added to the employee record, and displays on screen.
  12. If necessary, press Add to add more dependents. Complete steps 4 through 10.
  13. Press Next when you have added all of the new dependents. The Reason for change is pre-filled, based on your selection on the previous Life Events: Birth/Adoption screen.
  14. Enter your administrative PIN, and then press Confirm. A list of eligible benefit plans displays.
  15. Select the Medical plan, and then press Next. Benefits-Selection opens the Enrollment Site, and displays the employee’s enrollment status. Because you are adding a new dependent, you must re-enroll for all eligible benefit plans. Follow the instructions on screen (and in the enrollment topics) to complete the application.
  16. Press Next.
  17. Enter the PCP information for each covered member if necessary, select “Existing Patient” if the employee or family member is an existing patient.
  18. Press Next to continue. Benefits-Selection displays the employee’s selections, and presents any needed forms for signing. Notice that the totals for the newly selected plans have changed.
  19. Press Next to continue. The Benefit Verification/Deduction Confirmation form displays with updated totals.
  20. Enter your administrative PIN number, and press Sign Form.
  21. Press Logout to return to the Admin Site.

Enabling Enrollment Manually for an Employee

While it is generally preferable to re-enroll by recording a life event on the enrollment site, in exceptional circumstances you may enable re-enrollment in specific plans.

  1. On the Life Events tab, click the Enable enrollment manually option, and then press Next. A re-enrollment screen displays.
  2. Enter an “end date” for the new re-enrollment process in the “Can enroll until” text box.
  3. Enter a new effective date, if necessary, in the “Forced effective date” text box. Only do this if you want a date that is other than what the system would calcuate based on the date the life event is occurring (for example, if you are back-dating an enrollment)
  4. You can select "Repair latest coverage effective date" if you are only updating the coverage effective date to the future. This is when all you want to do is change the coverage effective date to a future date and there is no change in coverage. For example, EE has family medical PPO effective 9/1/22 and I need to change the family medical PPO to be effective 10/1/22, then I need to check that setting because all I am changing is the effective date to the future.
  5. Select a reason from the Reason type drop-down list; these are saved as a reason type ID which you can use or send on reports.
  6. Enter a reason for manually enabling enrollment in the “Reason” text box.
  7. If you want to allow the employee to change personal information, as well as update benefit plan selection, select the “Allow employee to change personal information” option.
  8. Select "Coverage Tier Change Only” if you want to only allow changes to the coverage tier for this employee. This option will prevent the selection of a different product within the plan, such as a change from an HMO to a PPO, and will only allow a coverage tier change.
  9. Select the desired plans (e.g., Medical) and press ReEnroll. Benefits-Selection automatically opens the Enrollment Site, and takes you to the location that you selected. (For example, if you selected Medical, you would go directly to the Medical presentation.)
  10. The re-enrollment process for the selected plan (e.g., Medical) begins again.
  11. Complete the enrollment process, and sign and submit the forms again.
