Deduction codes identify a specific benefit for the purpose of payroll reporting. For each product, you may specify three EDI parameters -- the Deduction Code, Deduction Name, and Deduction Type. All three of these values appear in payroll and employee benefits reports. You may also specify separate codes based on coverage tier and pretax/posttax status.

If the payroll company has assigned a number to the group, enter it as the Group Number.

Deduction Code Elements

Location  
From the drop-down list, select the location that applies to the deduction code.
Group number 
Select the group number that will apply to this deduction code.
Deduction code 
Use this section to assign deduction information to the specific plans and products.
Payroll Company 
From the drop-down list, select the name of the payroll department to associate with this deduction code.
Plan 
From the drop-down list, select the name of the plan to associate with this deduction code.
Product 
From the drop-down list, select the product for this deduction code.
Tier 
From the drop-down list, select the tier to which this deduction code applies.
Pretax/Post-tax 
Select Pretax, Post-tax, or both, to which this deduction code applies.
Deduction Code 
Assign a specific code for the deduction for this plan. This field displays in reports.
Deduction Name 
Assign a specific name to the deduction code for this plan. This field displays in reports.
Deduction Type 
Assign a deduction type to the deduction code. This field displays in reports.

Click the Same for all locations checkbox if you wish your changes to be saved at all locations.

Common Buttons

New 
Click New to add group numbers for a given product. If you want to associate a different payer with the product for reporting purposes, select a different payer from the Associated Payers drop-down list. Enter a group number in the space provided and click Save.
Save 
Click to save changes made to the Group Numbers.
Cancel 
Click to cancel all changes.
Import 
Click to import an EDI file containing control numbers. File formats accepted include .xls and .xlsx. Click the Select file button to navigate to the import file. The import file should have the Payer Name and corresponding Control Number defined.
Export 
Click to export the Payer and Control Numbers to a file.
Template 
Click to open an Excel spreadsheet that will let you import all EDI information at once. The template file contains a tab with each type of EDI information needed (i.e., Control Numbers, Group Numbers, Deduction Codes, Payroll Company). The file also contains tabs for Agent IDs and Agent Splits. The Help tab in the file contains a "key" for all tabs.
